Okay kiddo, so you know when a person or a pet dies, their body is no longer living and can't do anything anymore. So what happens to their body next?
Well, some people choose to bury the body in the ground in a special place called a cemetery, and some people choose to do something called cremation.
Cremation is like a super-hot fire that turns the body into ashes. You know how when we make s'mores on the campfire, the marshmallow gets all brown and crispy? Cremation is like that, but instead of a marshmallow, it's a body.
The ashes left over from the cremation are very powdery and look like fine sand. They're gray and white and can be put into a container like a vase or a box. Sometimes people keep the ashes with them at home, or they scatter them in a special place outside like a garden or a lake.
Cremation is a way to respectfully honor someone who has died, and it's a personal choice that different families make for different reasons.
