ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crystallization

Crystallization happens when a liquid turns into a solid, like when water freezes and turns into ice. This happens because the molecules that make up the liquid slow down and stick together in a very specific way, kind of like how Lego blocks fit together. When enough of these molecules stick together, they form a pattern that looks like a tiny version of the crystal shapes you might see in jewelry or on a snowflake. The process of crystallization can be used to make things like sugar or salt crystals, as well as many kinds of medicine and even some kinds of plastic!
