Danelaw

The Danelaw was a set of laws that were put in place in the parts of England ruled by Danish settlers in the 800s. These laws gave people in the Danelaw certain rights and freedoms. For example, they were allowed to choose their own leaders and to get a fair trial in court. This meant that people in the Danelaw had a lot more control over their lives than people living in the rest of England.
