ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Differential phase

Okay kiddo, you know how sometimes we listen to music or watch a movie and we hear different sounds coming out of different speakers? Well, those speakers have something called a phase, which basically means they are playing the sound waves at slightly different times.

Now, imagine we have two speakers playing the same sound, but one of them is delayed by just a tiny bit. This delay is called differential phase. When these sounds mix together, they create a new sound that sounds different from the original one. This is because some parts of the sound waves are in sync while others are not.

Differential phase is actually used in a lot of things, like radio signals and even medical imaging! It helps us to create clearer images and sounds by analyzing the differences in timing between the waves. So, while it may sound complicated, differential phase is just a fancy way of describing how we use timing differences to make things sound and look better!
