ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Directive control

Directive control is a type of control where someone tells others exactly what to do and how to do it.

Imagine you're playing with some blocks and your mom wants you to build a tower. She might give you very specific instructions on how to do it, like "put the red block on the bottom, then the blue one on top of it, and then the green one on top of that."

That's directive control! Your mom is giving you directions, or telling you what to do, so you can build the tower the way she wants it.

Now imagine you're playing in a sandbox with some friends, and your mom tells you to clean up before you come inside. She might not give you specific instructions, but just say "make sure the sandbox is all clean and put your toys away."

That's not directive control! She's giving you a goal, or something to work towards, but she's not telling you exactly how to do it. It's up to you and your friends to decide how to clean up and put the toys away.

So in short, directive control is when someone gives specific instructions on what to do, while non-directive control gives a general goal without specific instructions.
