Doenjang is a special kind of food from Korea. It is made from soybeans and other ingredients.
First, the soybeans are cooked and mashed into a paste. Then, special bacteria are added to the paste and left to ferment (which means they sit and age) for many months.
During this time, the bacteria eat the soybeans and release certain chemicals that make the paste taste different and smell really strong.
When the fermenting is done, the paste is ready to eat. It has a salty and savory taste, and is used to add flavor to lots of different Korean dishes.
Some people think doenjang smells a little funny, but it's really delicious once you get used to it!
