A dominant-party system is when one political party is the most powerful party in a government for a long period of time. This means that members of that one party often get elected to government positions and other political parties don't have much power or influence. It's like going to a party where everyone is wearing the same shirt. Even though other people may be there, most of the people in the party will be wearing the same shirt. That's what a dominant-party system is like.
