ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Separation of powers

Separation of powers is a way to make sure that power is spread out between different parts of the government so that no single group or person can have too much power. The United States has three branches of government: the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Each branch has its own job to do, and none of them can do all the jobs of the other branches. That way, no single branch has too much power, and it keeps everything fair.
