Effects of global warming on oceans

Ok kiddo, you know how when you put your hand in the bathtub for a long time, the water gets warm? And if you leave your hand there for a really long time, the water gets even warmer?

Well, the earth's atmosphere is like a blanket around the world, and when we use things like cars and factories, it's like we're putting extra blankets on top of the world. This makes the atmosphere get warmer, just like the water in the bathtub.

And just like the water in the bathtub can affect things like the rubber duckies and the toys you play with, the warmer atmosphere affects the oceans, too.

So, how does global warming affect the oceans?

Well, the oceans are like a big sponge or a blanket, too. They soak up carbon dioxide (that's a gas that we put in the air when we burn things like coal and oil) just like they soak up heat. But when the oceans soak up carbon dioxide, they get more acidic.

And just like how you wouldn't want to drink a sour lemonade, many plants and animals in the ocean can't survive in that acidic water.

Also, when the oceans get warmer, it can affect things like the currents (that's like the rivers in the ocean), the ice at the poles (that's like the ice in your drink), and the creatures that live in the water (like your fish friends).

When the currents change or the ice melts, it can make things like storms and hurricanes stronger and more dangerous. And when the creatures like fish and coral can't survive in the warmer, more acidic water, it can also affect our food and the animals we enjoy looking at when we go to the beach.

So, it's important that we try to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions and take care of our planet, so that we can continue to enjoy and protect the beautiful oceans that surround us.
