Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a way of using electricity to separate particles. We use electricity to make ions in a liquid (called an electrolyte) move around. Then, the ions move to different places and form new substances. For example, electrolysis is often used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The electricity that is used to make ions move is like the power to make something happen.
