ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Emigration

Emigration means leaving your country and moving to another one. Imagine you are playing with your toys at home, but you decide to go to your friend's house to play instead. Just like that, people can decide to leave their country and go live somewhere else. This can happen for many reasons. Sometimes, people move to a new country because they want to find a better job, or because they want to go study at school. Other times, people move because they want to be closer to their family members who live in another country.

When someone decides to emigrate, they have to go through many steps to make it happen. Just like when you pack your toys and snacks when you go to your friend's house to play, people who emigrate have to pack their bags with their belongings and important documents, like their passport. They also have to apply for things like visas and permits that allow them to legally move to a new country. Emigrating can be exciting, but also scary, because moving to a new country means leaving behind the familiar things like friends, family, and the places you know.
