Our brains are made up of different parts. One of those parts helps us remember things, like a special game we played with our friends or a funny moment that made us laugh. Another part helps us to feel emotions, like happiness or sadness. When we remember something (like a story or a memory), our emotions can be connected to that memory. Sometimes, a certain strong emotion like joy or sadness will be strongly connected to what we remember, and so when we think about that thing from the past, we can feel that emotion again. It's like our brain remembers the emotion along with the memory.
