English-based creole languages are languages created by mixing words and grammar from English with other languages. For example, Jamaican Creole has words from English, African languages and French. Creole languages usually happen when people of different cultures come together and need to communicate. Some of the words they use come from the languages they already know, and the grammar comes from whichever language is most familiar to the people using it. So when you hear someone speaking a creole language, you can usually tell which language it comes from.
