ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Equivocation

Equivocation is when someone uses one word in two different ways, to try to make something that isn't true sound true. It can also be when someone uses words that sound very similar but have different meanings, to confuse or trick you. For example, a mean person might say "you have a lot of sunshine and sunshine is a thing I don't like, so you must have something I don't like." In this sentence, the mean person is using "sunshine" two different ways - first as something nice, then as something bad. This is equivocation and it's not a fair way to talk.
