Eridu is an ancient city in southern Iraq. It was founded about 5,400 years ago and is considered to be the oldest city in the world. It was a major center for trade and worship in the region, and many structures left behind by the ancient people still stand today. Eridu was famous for its Temple of Enki, the chief god of the Sumerian pantheon. People would come from miles away to visit Eridu and make offerings to the gods in the Temple of Enki. They also enjoyed the city's nearby freshwater springs which made life in Eridu much easier. Unfortunately, Eridu was eventually abandoned and fell into disrepair, but today people continue to explore and appreciate the many wonders of this ancient city.
