Esker

An esker is like a long, winding road made out of rocks and gravel that was formed a really long time ago by glaciers moving across the earth's surface. Imagine playing with a big pile of sand or mud and pushing it around with your fingers to make a little hill. Well, that's kind of like what happened with the ice as it moved across the land, leaving behind a long, narrow ridge or a winding hill made out of rocks and gravel. Eskers can be hundreds of miles long and can stretch across many different landscapes like forests, hills, and even cities! They are important because they can provide a habitat for animals and plants to live in and can even be used by humans as a source of gravel for building roads and buildings. So if you ever see a long ridge of rocks and gravel winding through the countryside, you might just be looking at an esker!
