Estates of the realm is a term used in the history of some countries to describe the different parts of society. In most cases, these groups were made up of three estates: the nobility, or people with a high rank; the clergy, or people who work in churches or religious organizations; and the commoners, or people who are not part of a higher rank. All of these people had their own rights and responsibilities. They also had their own laws, duties, and taxes that they had to follow.
