ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Estimator

Okay kiddo, an estimator is like a guesser but a really good guesser. Have you ever played a game where you have to guess how many candies are in a jar? Estimators are like the people who are really good at guessing how many candies are in the jar without actually counting them.

But, there's a little bit more to it than just guessing. Estimators use math and statistics to figure out an approximate answer to a problem. They look at data and use formulas to come up with the best guess they can.

For example, imagine you have a bunch of toy cars and you want to know how much they all weigh together. An estimator would take some of the toy cars and weigh them to get an idea of how much each one weighs. Then, they would use that information to make a good guess about how much all of the toy cars weigh together.

Estimators are really helpful because they can save people a lot of time and money. Instead of having to count every single thing or measure everything, we can use estimators to give us a pretty good idea of what's going on.
