ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Evangelical deconstruction

Okay kiddo, do you know what it means to be evangelical? It means that someone is really passionate about sharing their beliefs in God and wants other people to believe the same thing too.

Now deconstruction means taking something apart to see how it works, kind of like when you take something apart to fix it or just to explore what's inside.

So when people talk about evangelical deconstruction, they are talking about people who used to be really passionate about sharing their beliefs in God, but now they are taking apart those beliefs to see if they still believe the same thing. They are asking lots of questions about what they believe and why they believe it.

It's kind of like when you used to love a certain type of food, but then you tried new foods and started to question whether that food was really your favorite anymore.

For some people, this process of deconstructing their beliefs in God leads them to faith in something new, different, or maybe even the same, but for others it leads them to questioning and possibly abandoning their faith.

It can be a tough and confusing process, but it's okay to ask questions and explore what you believe. Because just like you grow and learn in other areas of your life, your beliefs can also grow and change too.
