ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Farm-to-table

Okay kiddo, so you know that sometimes we go to the store and buy fruits and vegetables, right? Well, imagine if we could get them straight from the farm where they were grown without having to go to the store. This is what farm-to-table means!

When farmers grow crops like fruits and vegetables, they usually sell them to big companies who then sell them to stores. But with farm-to-table, the farmers sell directly to the people who will eat the food, like restaurants or you and me. This way, the food is fresher and healthier because it doesn't have to travel as far and sit on shelves for a long time.

And it's not just about fruits and vegetables, kiddo. Some farmers also raise animals like chickens and cows, and when you get meat from a farm-to-table restaurant, you can know that the animals were raised in a good way and had a happy life.

So, next time we go out to eat and see "farm-to-table" on the menu, we know that we are getting food that is good for us and good for the farmers too!
