ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Flexibility method

Hi there! The flexibility method is like playing with building blocks. You have a few different blocks that you can stick together to make a bigger structure. But sometimes you don't have enough blocks or you need to change the shape of the blocks to make them fit better. That's where the flexibility method comes in.

Imagine you have a structure made from blocks that are all connected together. When some kind of force, like wind or people walking on it, pushes or pulls on the structure, it can make it move or bend in different directions. The flexibility method can help us figure out how the structure will move and how much it will bend.

We start by breaking up the structure into smaller pieces, like taking apart a Lego tower. Then we figure out how each piece will bend or move when a force is applied to it. Once we know that, we can put all the pieces back together again to see how the whole structure will respond.

We can use this method to design all sorts of things, like bridges or buildings. By figuring out how they will behave under different conditions, we can make sure they're safe and will stay standing even when a strong wind blows or lots of people are using it at once.

I hope that helps explain the flexibility method!
