Flexible Mechanisms
Hello! Today we're going to talk about something called "flexible mechanisms".
Imagine you want to buy a toy, but you don't have enough money. Your friend offers to lend you some money, and in return, you promise to help him with his homework. This is an example of a "flexible mechanism" - a way for two people to help each other out when they have different needs.
Flexible mechanisms can also be used to help protect the environment. Let's say a big factory needs to reduce the amount of pollution it produces, but it's expensive to do so. Another company, however, has found a way to reduce pollution at a much lower cost. Through a flexible mechanism, the first company can pay the second company to reduce their pollution instead, allowing the first company to meet its pollution reduction goals at a lower cost.
