ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gender studies

Hi there! So, you know how there are boys and girls, right? Well, gender studies is all about understanding how people think and feel about being a boy or a girl, as well as understanding different gender identities that people might have.

Gender studies is like taking a big, careful look at how boys and girls are different, and how that affects our society. It also looks at how we think about gender roles - like how boys are supposed to like cars and girls are supposed to like dolls.

See, some people don't feel like they fit comfortably into the 'boy' or 'girl' category, and that's okay too. Gender studies helps us understand that some people might identify as neither, both or something else altogether.

So, essentially, gender studies is like learning how to respect and include everyone, no matter how they identify or what they like, and to make sure that everyone is treated fairly and kindly.
