Gonadarche

Okay kiddo, let's talk about gonadarche. You see, when we are born, we have tiny little organs inside our bodies called gonads. In boys, they are called testes and in girls, they are called ovaries. These gonads have an important job to do when we grow up.

When we reach a certain age, usually around nine to eleven years old, something special happens. Our brain starts telling our gonads to wake up and start working. This is called gonadarche.

For boys, this means that their testes start producing a hormone called testosterone which helps them develop stronger muscles, deeper voices, and grows hair in new places. Boys also start producing sperm, which is needed to make a baby.

For girls, this means their ovaries start producing hormones like estrogen and progesterone. This helps them grow breasts, develop hips, and start their periods. These hormones also help them become ready to have a baby when they grow up.

So, gonadarche is just when our body tells our gonads to start doing their job and helping us grow up!
