ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Grave goods

Grave goods are items that are buried with a person when they die. Think of it like a gift-bag that you take with you to your final resting place. People from a long time ago would put things they thought were valuable or important to them in their graves when they died. These things could be anything from jewelry, pottery, clothing, food, and tools, to anything that showed what kind of person they were when they were alive. People believed that the deceased might need these things in the afterlife to help them on their journey. It was also a way for family members to show how much they cared for the person who had died. Grave goods are important for us to understand how people from the past lived and what they believed in.
