Great ape personhood

Great ape personhood is the idea that great apes (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and bonobos) should be treated the same way as people because they have similar emotions, behavior, and mental processes. This means that they should be protected, given rights, and respected like a human being. For example, great apes should not be tested on nor kept as pets, they should live in safe and comfortable environments, and they should not be hurt or killed. This means that great apes should be treated with respect and kindness, just like people.
