Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in Europe and a long time ago it was a part of a bigger country called Yugoslavia. After Yugoslavia broke up, Bosnia and Herzegovina became independent in 1992.
But sadly, some people living in Bosnia and Herzegovina didn't want it to be its own country. They started fighting with each other and it turned into a big war that went on for a long time, from 1992 until 1995.
During the war, many people were killed and many had to leave their homes and become refugees. Finally, after a lot of fighting, the war ended and Bosnia and Herzegovina became a peaceful country again.
Today, it is made up of different groups of people, including Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats. They all have different cultures and languages but they work together to make their country the best it can be.
