History of Karelia

Karelia is a region in the northwestern part of Russia that has had a long and interesting history. A long time ago, many different tribes called the region home, including the Karelians and the Finns. These people were known for their unique customs and traditions, including their love of singing and storytelling.

Over time, different groups fought for control of Karelia, including the Swedes and the Russians. In the early 1900s, the region became a part of Finland and remained so until the end of World War II. During this time, the Karelian people saw many changes to their way of life, including the introduction of new industries and technologies.

After World War II, the Soviet Union regained control of Karelia and began to develop the region further. They built new factories and schools, and also helped improve the health and well-being of the people who lived there. Despite these changes, however, many Karelians still treasure their traditional way of life and continue to celebrate their ancestral customs and traditions to this day.
