ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hot Neptune

Imagine a planet in outer space that is similar to our Neptune, but it's much closer to its star and as a result, it's very hot. That's called a hot Neptune.

The hot Neptune is a planet that is about the same size as our Neptune, but it's much closer to its own sun, which makes it very hot.

When a planet is too close to its star, the star's heat cause the planet's atmosphere to expand, and eventually evaporate. That's what happens with a hot Neptune. The heat of the star causes the gases in the planet's atmosphere to expand and rise up, making it look like it has a big, puffy cloud.

Furthermore, as the planet get heated up, it's too hot for any life form we know to survive there. Not even the toughest astronauts could survive there without special protection, like a space suit.

In summary, a hot Neptune is a planet similar to Neptune, but it's close to its own sun, making it super hot and causing the gases in its atmosphere to expand and evaporate. It's not a place where we can live without protection, like a space suit.
