ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hypothalamic–neurohypophyseal system

The hypothalamic-neurohypophyseal system is like a communication system in your body that helps with things like drinking water, controlling your body temperature, and more. The part of your brain called the hypothalamus is like the captain of the communication team. It sends out special messages to another part of your brain called the neurohypophysis, which acts like the messenger. The neurohypophysis takes those messages and sends them to different parts of your body to do important jobs.

One of the main things the hypothalamic-neurohypophyseal system does is control how much water is in your body. When you get thirsty, it's because your hypothalamus told the neurohypophysis to release a special hormone called "vasopressin" that tells your body to hold onto more water. This helps keep your body from getting dehydrated.

Overall, the hypothalamic-neurohypophyseal system plays an important role in regulating many different bodily functions, making sure everything runs smoothly and keeps you healthy.
