ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

ISO 3166-1

Okay buddy, so ISO 3166-1 is like a secret code that helps everyone in the world to talk about countries using a common language. You know how we speak different languages and have different names for different things? So, imagine if someone from another country talks about their country and you don't know the name they use, it will be very confusing. ISO 3166-1 helps us avoid that confusion.

So, the code is made up of two parts - the letters and the numbers. The letters stand for the country's name, like US for the United States or GB for Great Britain. The numbers tell us more about the country, like what continent it's in or what region it belongs to.

And the best part is that everyone in the world agrees to use the same codes, so we all know what country someone is talking about when they use the code. It makes it easier for us to communicate with people from all over the world, even if we don't speak their language. Cool, right?
