ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Iberian languages

Hey there kiddo! So, have you ever heard anyone speak Spanish or Portuguese? Those are iberian languages!

Iberian languages are languages that are spoken in the Iberian Peninsula, which is in Europe and includes countries like Spain, Portugal and Andorra. There are many different iberian languages, but the most common ones are Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Galician.

Each of these languages has its own unique characteristics, like different words and grammar rules, just like how some kids might speak one language at home and another language at school. Even though they are different, they all come from the same family of languages, which means they have similar origins.

People who speak different iberian languages can sometimes understand each other pretty well, especially if the languages are similar like Spanish and Portuguese. But sometimes they might have a hard time understanding each other, kind of like how you might have a hard time understanding someone who speaks a different language than you do.

Isn't it neat how many different languages there are in the world? Who knows, maybe you'll learn more about them when you grow up!
