Ice cap

Okay kiddo, an ice cap is like a big hat made of ice that sits on top of a really tall mountain or covers a lot of land. When it's really cold outside, snow falls on the mountain or land and over many years, it keeps piling up higher and higher until it turns into ice.

The ice cap can be really thick, like a deep layer of frost on your ice cream that never melts. It can also be very heavy because all the ice is squished together and pressing down on whatever is underneath it.

When the weather starts to get warmer, the ice cap can start to melt a little bit. This is kind of like when you leave an ice cube out in the sun and it starts to turn into water. The ice cap melting can be a problem because it can cause the level of the ocean to rise, which is not good for the earth or the animals that live in the ocean.

So, people study ice caps and try to find ways to help stop them from melting too much so that we can take care of our planet and all the creatures on it.
