Sea ice

Sea ice is like a big, thick blanket made of ice that covers the ocean. It's like when you put ice cubes in a cup of water and the ice cubes float to the top. But instead of just a few ice cubes, it's a big sheet of ice that's sometimes many feet thick!

When the temperature of the water gets really cold, it starts to freeze and turn into ice. The ice then starts to spread out over the ocean and creates a layer of ice where there used to be just water. This is what we call sea ice.

Sea ice is really important because it provides a home for animals like polar bears and seals. It also helps to control the temperature of the planet. Just like how you might wear a blanket to stay warm when you're chilly, sea ice blankets the ocean and helps to keep the cold air from getting to the water, which helps to keep the planet from getting too cold.

But sea ice is also affected by climate change. As the planet gets warmer, the ice gets thinner and melts faster. This can be a problem because it leaves less habitat for animals, and it can also cause other problems like rising sea levels. So it's important for us to take care of our planet and try to keep it from getting too warm.
