Ichnology is study of traces left behind by living creatures. When animals move around, they can leave behind footprints, burrows, nests, or other types of marks that can tell us about their behavior, lifestyle, and habitat. Scientists who study ichnology try to figure out what kind of animals made these traces, how they lived, and what their environment was like. It's kind of like being a detective, but instead of using fingerprints and clues at a crime scene, they use tracks and other signs left by animals long, long ago. Pretty cool, huh?
