ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Identification (biology)

Identification (biology) is the process of using scientific methods to organize and classify living things. You might be asked to look at different plants and animals, and decide which type they are. For example, if you were asked to identify a bird you would need to look at the shape of its beak, its wings, and the color of its feathers to determine if it's a robin, a canary, or a crow. Another example is looking at plants and looking at the shape and size of its leaves and identifying if it's a rose, an elm tree, or an oak tree. Classification helps us understand more about the world around us and how living things interact with each other.
