ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Illusion-of-truth effect

Do you know how sometimes people can tell you something that is not true, but you end up believing it anyway just because you heard it so many times? That's called the "illusion-of-truth effect." It means that the more you hear something, the more likely you are to believe it, even if it's not really true.

It's like playing a game of "telephone" where one person whispers something to the next person, and then they whisper it to the next person, and so on. By the time the message gets to the last person, it might be completely different from what the first person said!

The same thing can happen in real life when people repeat things over and over again. If you hear something enough times, even if it's not true, your brain might start to think that it is. That's why it's important to always check your sources and make sure you are learning true information.
