ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Implicit Association Test

The Implicit Association Test (IAT) is a test that helps people understand how they automatically think or feel about something without realizing it. It works by showing two different sets of words on a computer screen, and you have to press a button to say if the two words belong together or not. Depending on how quickly you can do this, the IAT can tell how closely you associate different ideas with each other. For example, it might show you a flower and a bee, and you would quickly say that those go together. On the other hand, if it shows you a flower and a snake, you might take a little longer to decide that those don’t go together. By measuring how quickly you respond to these different combinations, the IAT can measure how closely related different ideas are in your mind.
