Infusion

Infusion is when something is added to something else. It's like when mommy adds sugar to her tea to make it sweeter. In medicine, infusion is when a liquid is slowly added to the body through a tube called an IV. The IV is like a straw that goes into your body, usually in your arm, and the medicine or liquid goes through the straw and into your body. This is done when someone needs medicine quickly or constantly, but they can't take it by mouth. It could be something like antibiotics to fight an infection, or fluids to keep someone hydrated. Infusion can happen in a hospital or even at home with the help of a healthcare worker or parent.
