Ink and wash painting

Imagine you have a picture you want to paint, but instead of using colored pencils or crayons, you're going to use something different called ink. Ink is like really dark water that you can draw with. Instead of coloring the whole picture in with the ink (like you would with a crayon), you're going to use brushes to paint it on.

But ink can be really intense and overwhelming, so sometimes artists will use something called a wash to make it lighter. A wash is like a super light version of ink that you can add water to. When you paint with a wash, it will look like a really diluted version of the ink. So you can use it to make light colors or to give a picture more depth.
