ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Internalized racism

Internalized racism is when a person has been taught to think certain things about people who look different from themselves and act on those beliefs. For example, some people have been taught that people with darker skin are less valuable, or that some types of people are better than others. These beliefs can lead people to put others down or treat them differently, or to even try and suppress their own culture in an effort to fit in. This can cause a lot of pain for everyone involved, and it’s important to recognize and try to stop it.
