ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Interpersonal relationships

Interpersonal relationships are the way we get along and connect with other people. Just like how you make friends at school, your parents make friends at work or your mommy and daddy are friends with their neighbours. These relationships can be with family members, friends or even strangers too.

Sometimes we feel happy when we are with a particular person and can share our thoughts, feelings or experiences. This is because we have connected with that person on a deeper level. But, other times we may feel angry, frustrated, or sad because of the way someone has treated us or done something which upset us. This is when we need to communicate our feelings to the other person.

The key to maintaining good interpersonal relationships is through communication. To communicate effectively, we must express ourselves honestly, listen to others respectfully, and try to understand their point of view. We should be aware of the things that we say and how we say them, as this can make a big difference in how people respond to us.

It is also important to respect boundaries and personal space. Some people are more extroverted, while others are more introverted, meaning they like to keep to themselves. We should not force others to do things they don't want to do, and we should always ask for permission before doing something with someone.

In short, interpersonal relationships are about getting along and connecting with other people by communicating and respecting their boundaries.
