Ironic

Okay kiddo, let me explain the word "ironic" to you.

Do you know what it means when something is different than what you expect? Like when it's a sunny day but you forget your sunglasses so the sun hurts your eyes, or when you're really excited to eat your favorite food but then it turns out to be cold and gross? That's kind of like what ironic means.

Let's say someone says "I love animals so much, I would never eat them." But then you see them eating a big juicy hamburger. That's ironic because they said one thing and did the opposite.

Or let's say someone who always wears sunscreen gets a sunburn because they forgot to put it on one day. That's ironic because they were trying to protect themselves but ended up getting burned anyway.

So basically, ironic means when something happens that's surprising or unexpected because it's the opposite of what you thought would happen.
