ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kort nozzle

Imagine you are playing with a water hose, and you notice that the water shoots out in a straight line. Now imagine if you put a cone-shaped device around the hose, so the water shoots out of a smaller hole. This cone-shaped device is called a kort nozzle.

The kort nozzle works by compressing the water as it exits the nozzle, which creates a more powerful and directed stream. Think of it like blowing up a balloon - the more you blow, the more forceful the air escapes. Similarly, when water is pumped into the kort nozzle, the nozzle compresses it and shoots it out in a more forceful manner than it would without the nozzle.

Kort nozzles are often used in boats and ships to improve their maneuverability. The powerful stream of water produced by the nozzle helps the ship turn more quickly and with greater precision. This is important in situations where the ship needs to navigate through narrow channels or avoid obstacles.

So just like how putting a cone around a water hose makes the water shoot out more powerfully, the kort nozzle helps ships move more effectively through water.
