Kulturkampf

Kulturkampf is a German word that means "culture struggle". This term is usually used to describe a period of time in the late 1800s in Germany when the government tried to control the power of the Catholic Church. The government wanted to make sure that the Church's religious laws didn't interfere with the laws created by the government. The government passed laws that limited the Church's power and made it harder for priests to do their religious jobs. Eventually these laws were overturned and the Church was allowed to keep most of its power.
