ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Language delay

Language delay means that a child is slower at learning and using words than other kids their age. Just like some kids learn to walk or ride a bike later than others, some kids may learn to talk a little later too.

Sometimes, this can be because the child has trouble hearing or understanding what people are saying. Other times, it's just because their brain needs a little more time to figure out how to make sounds and put them together to form words.

It's important for parents and caregivers to be patient and supportive, and to work with the child to help them develop their language skills. This might involve things like reading books, singing songs, and talking with the child often.

If the delay persists and becomes more severe, it's a good idea to seek advice from a doctor or a specialist who can help diagnose any underlying issues and provide additional resources and support.
