ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Language ideology

Language ideology is the way different people think about language. People have a lot of different beliefs and ideas about language, like which language is best and how people should speak. Language ideology affects the way people use language and whether they think they should speak a certain way. For example, some people think it's best to use correct grammar, while others don't. Language ideology also affects how people treat someone who speaks a different language, even if they know the language well.
