Linear accelerator

A linear accelerator or LINAC is a machine that is used for cancer treatment. Think of it like a big flashlight for your body. It uses electricity and magnets to make a beam of special kinds of energy called "radiation" that can kill cancer cells.

A LINAC works by shooting this radiation at very high speeds through a tube called a "waveguide" until it gets to the end of the tube, where it exits through a small opening. The radiation is then aimed very precisely at the part of your body where the cancer is located.

The machine is very big, and you have to lie down on a table while it moves around you. It may be noisy, but it doesn't hurt you while you are getting treatment. You may have to come back several times for treatment, and you might feel a little tired after each time.

Overall, a linear accelerator is an important tool for treating cancer and helping people get better.
