ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Manchuria

Manchuria is a really big piece of land in the northeast part of China. It's kind of like a big puzzle piece that fits in between Russia, North Korea, and China. And just like when you play with puzzles, sometimes people fight over the same piece.

A long time ago, Manchuria was ruled by a group of people called the Manchus. They had their own language and culture, but later on, they became a part of China. But then some other countries, like Japan and Russia, wanted to control Manchuria too.

In the 20th century, Japan actually took over Manchuria and made it a part of their own country. But this made other countries, like the United States, really upset. They thought it wasn't fair for Japan to just take over another country's land like that. So they got involved and helped push Japan out of Manchuria.

Today, Manchuria is still a part of China, but it's also home to many different people with their own traditions and ways of life.
