ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Materials engineering

Materials engineering is like being a scientist who helps build things. First, it starts with the things that make up the things we use, like steel, plastic and glass. Then, the engineer figures out how to mix the materials together in a special way to make them stronger, lighter or able to hold a certain shape. Materials engineers help to create things like airplanes, phones and buildings. It is like playing with building blocks but with real materials like metal, copper and glass.
